Eco-Friendly Fabrics and Materials

By Kelsey Hokit|
For many people, finding clothing that is made from eco-friendly fabrics and materials is extremely important when trying to be environmentally conscious. There are certain fabrics and materials that are used when creating clothing items that would not be considered eco-friendly so it is important to be aware of what is considered sustainable. Below we are going to talk about which fabrics and materials are most eco-friendly!
1. Organic Cotton
Organic cotton is one of the most common fabrics that is considered eco-friendly. It is grown without pesticides or chemicals. In most instances, organic cotton is farmed with 62% less energy and 88% less water than standard cotton, which makes it very eco-friendly.
2. Organic Hemp
Hemp is also a very sustainable material that is used in clothing items. It is a natural fabric that is great for the soil when growing and does not require a lot of water. It is also considered carbon-negative, which means that it absorbs CO2.
3. Organic Linen
Linen is another material that is very sustainable and eco-friendly. It is somewhat similar to hemp, but it comes from the flax plant. Linen also does not require much water or fertilization to grow and is considered a favorite fabric when it comes to anything from clothing to sheets.
4. Organic Bamboo
Bamboo is sometimes referred to as bamboo linen. The unique thing about bamboo is that is can be harvested without killing the bamboo plant itself. This means that it is very quickly renewable and is considered one of the fastest-growing plants. Bamboo can be turned into a highly sustainable fabric, but this means that it has to be used in the proper manner and not processed with a lot of chemicals.
These fabrics are some of the most sought-after when it comes to materials that are highly sustainable and eco-friendly. If you are looking for these items then it is important to do the proper research to ensure that they are truly eco-friendly and come from reliable sources.
